Form an L-shape with your arms, and maintain that angle while you walk. Alternate your arms with whichever foot is forward. Touch your heel to the ground first, and then let the rest of your foot roll in a smooth motion with each step.

Because these small muscles tire before the large ones, it is logical to work with dumbbells, barbells and other small weights before moving on to the larger machines. By the time you are ready to exercise large muscle groups, the smaller muscles can rest.

When walking, use proper form to avoid getting hurt. Try walking upright while your shoulders are drawn back. Have your elbows fall at a ninety degree angle. Always alternate the motion of legs and arms: Put your left arm forward while your right leg is out in front and vice versa. Your heel should be the first part of your foot to touch the ground for every step.

Develop a fitness log that lists the exercises that you completed throughout your day. Write down your regular workouts and all other exercise you did during the day. Buy a pedometer and look to see how many steps you take during the day; write that down, too. Keeping track of how far you’ve come in your fitness routine can keep you motivated.
